PaintingOnWater™: Experience The Art, The Science and The Stories

When I hear, I forget; When I see, I understand; When I do, I remember for life . . .

The Background

Originally known as suminagashi, it was practiced by the Shinto priest in Japan over 2,000 years ago.

In search of her heritage more than 25 years ago, Amy Segami draws on her physics knowledge, revived this nearly lost ancient art, established the contemporary signature style, coined the term Painting On Water™ and received many credits for the innovative application of combining art and science.

She received many press attention such as Crain’s Business, National Public Radio and BBC, just to name a few.

The late renowned artist, Ed Paschke, addressed her as an artist of “extraordinary sensitivity and virtuosity, merging aspects of Eastern and Western culture” and, in an interview with the BBC, stated that “her art speaks to all people of all places and time”.

Prologue

Once upon a time, there was a former mechanical engineer turned professional artist who started to PaintOnWater™. Her friends and family used to call her crazy as no one would be interested. They hushed when BBC, NPR and Crain’s Chicago featured her work.

Then, the artist turned motivational speaker started to PaintOnAir™, with words. Once again, her friends and family said she was crazy because she was not a native English speaker. No one could understand what she said with her accent. They were pleasantly surprised when she won the Moth StorySLAM and many more contests.

Seeing is believing.
