Business Applications

As a scientist and now acting as an R&D manager in a medical device company, I never really had the opportunity and not much interest in developing my creativity skills using art. I chose to attend the course painting on water for taking me out of my comfort zone. I did not know what to expect. I was surprised to see how easy it was. I was able to create beautiful images without drawing skills. This was a significant paradigm shift for me. The correlations with the CPS model are multiple and the experience prepared me well for the CPS Springboard training that followed. For painting on water, one must interact with the medium in a spontaneous way, go with the flow and explore possibilities just like in a brainstorming session where being in the moment and delay judgment is critical.  Amy has a unique way for teaching these principles in a relaxing interactive session that makes the experience very enjoyable. I strongly recommend the course as a prelude to CPS training.

Amy’s workshop taught me how to channel creative energy into smart business decisions. Unlike anything I have ever experienced before, the workshop enabled me to embrace simplicity and avoid making mistakes such as micromanaging people or a project. Creating paintings by floating and moving ink on water, her workshop taught me how to start a project or business idea off in the right direction, and guide it along as it progresses, but without trying to have micro-control every aspect or be burdened by every single small problem. Because of this I have more faith in the people I work with to produce good work, I spend less time worrying about small problems, and I can share this philosophy with those I work with and am friends with.

The first time I was a participant in Amy’s session “writing on water” in Toronto. It was a unique, life changing experience for me. It was so engaging and drew me into spaces in my mind I had never visited before. I came back home and kept repeating it to discover new possibilities. Then I realized how powerful a technique this is in the realm of creative thinking.
The following year I invited Amy to present two sessions, a regular and a keynote in our annual conference www.atlantacreativity.org and her sessions became the talk of the town!
Now people ask me to bring Amy back year after year and there is no question that the insights they receive in terms of problem solving, team fitting and excitement exceed everyone’s expectations. Looking forward to this year’s sessions with Amy at Atlanta Creativity Exchange from May 6-8, 2010.
